Safeguarding

Coberley Primary School and Governing Body recognises its responsibility to safeguard and promote the welfare of children and to work together with other agencies to ensure there are adequate arrangements within our school to identify, assess and support those children who may be suffering harm.

At Coberley our Designated Safeguarding Lead is Mrs Elizabeth Black, and our Deputy Designated Safeguarding Leads are Miss Natasha Dowdall and Mrs Anna Cole. Our Governor Safeguarding Leads are Mrs Catherine Smith and Mrs Michaela Marshall. Our Senior Mental Health Lead is Miss Natasha Dowdall.

Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children is everyone's responsibility at Coberley C of E Primary. Everyone who comes into contact with the children and families of our community has a role to play. Everyone should make sure their approach is child-centred which means they should consider at all times, what is in the best interests of the child.

Definition of Safeguarding:

Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children is defined as:

  • protecting children from maltreatment;
  • preventing impairment of children’s mental and physical health or development;
  • ensuring that children grow up in circumstances consistent with the provision of safe and effective care; and
  • taking action to enable all children to have the best outcomes.

Children includes everyone under the age of 18.

Our Safeguarding Policy has been developed in accordance with the principles established by the Children Acts 1989 and 2004; the Education Act 2002 and in line with the statutory guidance: 'Working Together to Safeguard Children' (DfE 2023) and 'Keeping Children Safe in Education' (DfE 2025). This policy also takes on board procedures and guidance set out by Gloucestershire Safeguarding Children Partnership (GSCP).
