Creative Curriculum - Art, DT, Music and MFL

Art and DT Rationale

We want to equip children not only with the statutory requirements of the National Curriculum but also to prepare them for the creative opportunities and experiences of later life. We want the children to explore culture, diversity, and gender through art and artists and have a sound knowledge of key artists to enhance their "cultural capital.".  Our curriculum has been created by the staff team to embrace our school topics, the local environment, and significant artists to embellish creativity.

Music

Music

At Coberley, we take pride in music. It is an essential and creative part of our curriculum, and we love to sing in assemblies. We take part in whole-class expert music tuition from Glos Music, and we have two pheripatetic music staff who come into school every week and cater for a wide variety of instruments to many children. Recent enrichment activities have been iSing Pop; samba at Rendcomb College; jazz at the Pump Rooms, and our annual house singing competition and talent show.

Singing is part of our daily assemblies, and we take pride in learning new hymns. We often play a weekly genre of music as children arrive at assembly and gauge feedback.

Modern Foreign Languages

MFL

At Coberley we want our children to love learning foreign languages. We want them to be able to use languages to ignite their curiosity and deepen their understanding of the world. We believe that through our school values children learn to respect other cultures, have the persevere to learn new skills and show kindness to each other and children who use other home languages and are from different cultures. We want our children to foster a love of language and have the inclination to learn a plethora of foreign languages throughout their school career and beyond. Children learn FRENCH in Year 2 and 3, and SPANISH in Year 4,5 and 6.
