Assistive Technology at Coberley

At Coberley C of E Primary School, we want every pupil to feel nurtured, cherished and inspired to achieve their best. As a maintained Church of England primary school, we use assistive technology to help make learning accessible and to support pupils to work with greater confidence and independence.

Read & Write Everway

Read & Write Everway offers tools that pupils can use to support different parts of their learning. These include:

  • Text-to-speech, which reads text aloud
  • Dictation, which allows pupils to speak and have their words converted into text
  • Typing tools, to help pupils record their ideas and complete written work

These tools can help pupils access text, express their ideas and take greater ownership of their learning. They may be especially helpful for pupils with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), but they are not just for pupils with SEND. We use support in ways that suit individual pupils and learning activities.

By giving pupils different ways to read, write and share their thinking, assistive technology reflects our commitment to inclusion and to helping every child grow in confidence, resilience and independence.

Reader pens in every classroom

Reader pens are also available in KS2 classrooms for pupils to use independently. They provide another way to access written information and can support pupils as they work through classroom activities.

Supporting every pupil

Technology is one part of the support we provide. Staff help pupils learn how and when to use these tools so they can choose strategies that work for them. This helps us put our vision, “Nurtured, Cherished and Inspired for Fullness of Life,” into practice by valuing each pupil and supporting them to take part in learning.

We want every pupil at Coberley to have the tools and encouragement they need to participate, develop independence and achieve their best.
