Our History Curriculum

"History is who we are and why we are the way we are" - David McCullough

Our history curriculum has been carefully curated so that our children develop their historical capital.

Our aims are to fulfil the requirements of the National Curriculum for History; providing a broad, balanced and differentiated curriculum that encompasses the British Values throughout; ensuring the progressive development of historical concepts, knowledge and skills; and for the children to study life in the past.

Our history curriculum for all classes is built around our Fab 5 Statements, providing a consistent structure throughout our school and enabling children to progress their historical knowledge and skills.

Our Fab 5 statements are:

  • Dwellings: I know where people lived at this time and why
  • Significant Figures: I know who the significant people were at this time and why
  • Significant Events: I know what significant events happened at this time and why this was important
  • Food: I know what food was eaten at this time and why
  • Clothing: I know what clothes people wore at this time and why

Our History Curriculum has a seperate strand for Chronological Understanding which remains the same throughout every historical topic. These focus on two chronology aspects:

  • I know how to order events in this topic chronologically
  • I know where this topic comes within a chronological framework
