At Coberley, we prepare our children for the future.
Technology has changed the way in which young people learn, gather information, think and interact. As a consequence, it is our duty to ensure that we are constantly reviewing our processes, teaching and environment so that we can effectively prepare our students for a life beyond school.
A connected school
The whole school has moved to work through a digital platform called Google Classroom. All students can now access their school work on any device, wherever they are. Aside from improving efficiency and organisation when completing school work, it gives them the important experience of working in a digital environment which is more akin to what they will face in the workplace once they leave our School.
As part of this approach, all children in Owls and Kestrels have their own device to use in school and children in Kingfishers have access to a tablet or iPad. Google Classroom and the accompanying Google Suite provides teacher-curated content, accessible to students 24/7, including:
- Worksheets and links to handouts, presentation and web sites.
- Extension work
- Individual allocated work
- Past examination papers and mark schemes
- Tests that can be taken and automatically marked
- Video or audio clips using our own YouTube channel
Student work is saved with our Coberley domain, so groups of students can collaborate more easily.
The Impact of Technology in Education at Coberley
As the world adapted to the challenges of COVID-19 and online learning became the new norm, technology played a significant role in transforming the educational landscape.
The Power of Google Classroom
Enhancing Engagement and Communication
With features like online notice boards and a central hub for sharing daily work, Google Classroom fostered engagement among pupils and their families. It became a space to showcase student work, communicate with parents, and create a sense of community within the virtual classroom.
Time-Saving Efficiency
Teachers and pupils alike benefited from the time-saving features of Google Classroom. It streamlined the planning process, allowing educators to easily manage and distribute assignments, assessments, and links to learning materials. Students were able to conveniently access all class resources in one place, whether at home or school.
Monitoring made simple
Every day, school leaders can view what will be taught throughout the day. Online work can be seen in real time, and children at home can access school work from any device.
Work prepared can also be duplicated and re-used at a later date.
Empowering Learning Through Technology
Adaptive Learning Platforms
Technology introduced adaptive learning platforms like Doodle and LBQ, which personalized learning experiences for pupils. These platforms offered tailored content and interactive exercises to meet the individual needs and pace of each learner.
Enhanced Communication and Collaboration
Through online noticeboards and effective communication channels, technology fostered greater collaboration among teachers, pupils, and parents. Platforms like Google Classroom acted as a bridge, connecting all stakeholders and promoting a cohesive learning environment.
Integration and Development
Seamless File Management
Google Drive has become the backbone of school file management, eliminating the need for traditional school networks. All school files, including important information for staff and governors, are securely stored and easily accessible with variable access.
Empowering Students through Google Login
Every pupil received a personal Google login, offering them the opportunity to enhance collaboration and file sharing. Platforms like code.org and read theory allowed students to explore and engage with coding and reading comprehension, broadening their experiences and adapting to their needs.
Data Collection Made Easy
Google Forms emerged as a powerful tool for collecting information and feedback from pupils, parents, and staff. From gathering surveys and pupil voice to documenting disqualification notices, it revolutionized the efficiency of data collection and analysis.
The Impact and Next Steps
Access to Limitless Educational Resources
Technology opened the doors to a vast array of educational resources, providing pupils with access to limitless knowledge and information. From digital libraries to educational apps, pupils could explore and learn beyond the confines of traditional textbooks.
Fostering Digital Literacy and Future Readiness
Technology will play a vital role in preparing students for the digital era. By introducing a digital environment coupled with traditional learning, pupils are equipped with the skills and mindset necessary to thrive in a technology-driven world.
