Will be using our descriptive skills this term to create poetry. The children will be looking at lots of different types of poetry and how this differs from other writing we have read. We will be looking in depth at some classic poetry and then having a go at creating some of our own poetry about Ancient Greece. We will also be continuing to develop our MAPOS skills, to help with our descriptive writing. This is a mnemonic to remember figurative language…

Maths
This term, Year 4 will start with looking at angles, comparing and ordering angles and then looking at triangles, quadrilaterals and polygons. After this they will be looking at coordinates. Plotting these on a graph, drawing and translating shapes on a grid. We will finish the term looking at statistics and how we can present these.
In year 5 we are continuing our work with decimals, learning to add and subtract decimal numbers with a variety of decimal places. We will then be looking at angles, measuring and calculating with them. Then they will be looking at polygons, regular and irregular. We will finish the term with a statistic project, looking at how we can collect data and present this in different ways.
Science
We will be investigating properties of materials this term. We will be comparing and grouping together everyday materials on the basis of their properties, including their hardness, solubility, transparency, conductivity (electrical and thermal), and response to magnets; know that some materials will dissolve in liquid to form a solution, use knowledge of solids, liquids and gases to decide how mixtures might be separated, including through filtering, sieving and evaporating; and finally, they learn how to give reasons, based on evidence from comparative and fair tests, for the particular uses of everyday materials, including metals, wood and plastic.
RE
We are finishing our work on the big question is ‘why might the belief that Jesus ‘saved’ people be so important for many Christians? Thinking about salvation and the Easter story.
